Samutkarsh Abhyasika Initiative
The Samutkarsh Abhyasika initiative, sponsored by the Birewar Trust and implemented by the Seva Sahayog Foundation, aimed to support educational development for underprivileged children in the Karjat and Palghar regions. This initiative provided an after-school sanctuary (Abhyasika) for 127 students, fostering holistic development through a blend of curricular support, extracurricular activities, teacher training, and parental involvement.
Key Achievements:
- Curricular and Extracurricular Activities: The project conducted 126 sessions covering the Balmitra Curriculum and other activities, achieving 100% syllabus completion.
- Leadership and Special Events: A leadership camp and 30 festive events saw an average participation of 100 students, promoting confidence and teamwork.
- Parental Engagement: Three parent meetings with a 90% attendance rate and 40 home visits ensured robust stakeholder engagement.
Impact Highlights:
- Attendance: Abhyasika students maintained an impressive average attendance of 83%.
- Competitions: Students won prizes in various competitions, showcasing their holistic development.
- Retention Rates: The Balmitra Post Assessment Exams recorded an average retention of 57.5% for primary students and 64.5% for secondary students.
- Dropout Rate: The dropout rate was kept low at 6%, indicating high student engagement.
- Teacher Training: Seven monthly training sessions with 90% participation improved teaching abilities and curriculum execution.
Challenges and Learnings:
- Challenges: Engaging male parents, combating teacher attrition, and addressing student absenteeism during festivals were identified as ongoing challenges.
- Learnings: The project highlighted the necessity for tailored curricula, frequent teacher training sessions, and recognition to sustain motivation.
The Samutkarsh Abhyasika initiative has made significant strides in providing transformative education to underprivileged students in the Karjat and Saphale regions. Through strategic initiatives, active stakeholder involvement, and unwavering dedication, the project continues to empower students and inspire positive change. With an average attendance of 83%, retention rates exceeding 66%, and minimal dropouts, the Abhyasika sets a commendable standard for educational excellence and community engagement.
School Kit Initiative
The School Kit initiative aimed to alleviate financial stress for underprivileged families by providing necessary stationery and educational resources to students. Over 1163 students from 10 schools in the Thane and Raigad districts benefited from this initiative, which played a crucial role in enabling students to attend school with the required supplies.
Key Achievements:
- Distribution: 1163 students from 10 schools received school kits containing notebooks, pens, pencils, and other essential stationery items.
- Impact: The initiative significantly reduced financial stress for families, allowing students to focus on their studies without worrying about basic educational supplies.
The School Kit initiative has been instrumental in ensuring that students from underprivileged backgrounds have the necessary tools to pursue their education. This support not only alleviates the financial burden on families but also encourages consistent school attendance and engagement.
Both initiatives underscore the importance of community-driven progress and inclusive education in fostering a brighter future for underprivileged children. The meticulous documentation of fund utilization ensures transparency and accountability, further strengthening the credibility of Seva Sahayog Foundation's efforts.
